Southeast Missouri State track and field athletes Miles Smith and Ben Stricklin have received Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors for their performances at Saturday's SEmotion Relays.
Smith is the OVC male co-track athlete of the week after winning the SEmotion Relays 400-meter title with a time of 46.23 seconds. That is the fastest in the nation so far this season and qualified him for the NCAA regionals.
Stricklin is the OVC male field athlete of the week after winning the SEmotion Relays javelin with a regional qualifying throw of 214 feet 6 inches. That is the best distance in the OVC this season.
Six Southeast athletes will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend to compete at the Sea Ray Relays, while the remainder of the team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to compete at the Boston-Moon Classic.
Five Southeast athletes who already have qualified for the regional — Smith, Stricklin, John Berry in the long jump, Lindsay Hearne in the javelin and Samantha Espiricueta in the javelin — will compete at the Sea Ray meet, along with Brandon Karcher in the 10,000.
Softball at home
The Southeast softball team will conclude its five-game homestand today when Middle Tennessee State visits for a 4 p.m. nonconference doubleheader.
Southeast is 17-18 overall and 7-7 in OVC play after winning its third-straight conference series over the weekend, taking two of three from Tennessee State.
Middle Tennessee is 14-18 overall and 7-7 in the Sun Belt Conference.
