Southeast Missouri State University's tennis team picked up its first win of the season Friday as the Otahkians beat Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State 6-1 in Nashville, Tenn.
The Otahkians (1-13, 1-3) bounced back from Thursday's 7-0 OVC loss at Jacksonville (Ala.) State.
Southeast won eight of nine matches Friday. Singles winners Kay Ehlke, Kolby Hoebing, Kelly Mitchell, Krista Hoebing and Beckie Prendergast. In doubles, the teams of Kimmy Anderson-Ehlke, Kolby Hoebing-Mitchell and Krista Hoebing-Prendergast all prevailed.
The Otahkians have a non-conference home match Monday, playing Northwest Missouri State at 2 p.m.
Softball team splits
Southeast's softball team picked up its first victory during the week-long Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., as the Otahkians split a pair of Friday games, leaving them 1-5 on their spring break trip.
The Otahkians (5-12) lost to Colgate 4-1 but beat Vermont 2-1 in eight innings.
Kelly Birk pitched all eight innings and allowed five hits to get the victory over Vermont. Southeast scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth as a Victoria Torrez squeeze bunt drove in pinch-runner Stacey DeClue. Torrez led the Otahkians with three hits.
Thursday, Southeast lost to Cleveland State 3-0 and Colorado State 7-1.
Southeast finishes the Rebel Spring Games today with games against Cornell and Fordham.
