Southeast Missouri State University's softball team whipped visiting Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State Saturday at Parker Field to solidfy their hold on first in the conference.
The Otahkians won the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 10-1 to improve to 19-14-1 overall and 12-3 in the OVC.
Debbie Schmelz earned the shutout in the opener. She went five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six.
Offensively for Southeast, Chris Shetley went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, Michelle Frank went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kim Palmer went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Southeast followed its 12-hit performance in the first game with 14 hits in the nightcap.
Jenny Oermann (3-for-3 and an RBI), Palmer (2-for-2 and three RBIs), Shetley (2-for-4 and an RBI), Leanne Gryncewicz (2-for-3 and two RBIs), Melissa Thornton (2-for-2 and two RBIs) and Tami Hebert (2-for-2) were the Otahkians' leading hitters.
Sara Reichert went all six innings and earned the win. She allowed one earned run on three hits while fanning two.
Southeast hosts Eastern Kentucky today.
