Southeast Missouri State University's softball team, taking aim on a fifth straight Ohio Valley Conference championship, picked up a pair of shutout victories at home Saturday.

The first-place Otahkians knocked off Morehead State 1-0 and 3-0 as they improved to 23-14 overall and 13-1 in OVC play.

Morehead State fell to 18-15 overall, 8-4 in the league.

Debbie Schmelz (9-9) got the win in the opener. She allowed three hits and no walks while striking out six.

Southeast scored the game's lone run in the fourth inning on Kelsey White's first home run of the season. Jenny Oermann had two of the Otahkians' five hits.

Natalie Massingill (9-9) was the tough-luck loser for Morehead.

Christine Engelhardt (14-5) was the winner in the nightcap. She allowed two hits and no walks while fanning eight.

The Otahkians again struck in the fourth, scoring all three runs. Anne Trieb had two of Southeast's seven hits while Michelle Frank drove in two runs.

Southeast will have its final home games today, hosting Eastern Kentucky in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
