Southeast Missouri State University's softball team swept a doubleheader against Ohio Valley Conference foe Middle Tennessee State Saturday at Parker Field.
Southeast won the opener 10-3 and the nightcap 3-2. The Otahkians improved to 8-3 in the OVC and 15-12 overall.
The big blow for Southeast in the first game was a grand slam by Kim Palmer in the second inning. Palmer had three hits and six RBIs for the game.
Kendra Williams, Josie Earnest and Tami Hebert each added two hits.
Debbie Schmelz earned the victory. She went five innings, allowing four hits and walking two. Christine Engelhardt closed out the game by striking out four of six batters faced.
Southeast scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings in the nightcap.
Sara Reichert pitched a complete game and earned the win. She allowed five hits, struck out three and walked three.
Offensively, Palmer had three hits and an RBI and Anne Wilson had a single and an RBI.
The Otahkians return to action today when Tennessee State comes to Parker Field for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
