MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southeast Missouri State University women's cross country team opened its season Saturday with a victory in a 12-team meet hosted by the University of Memphis.

Senior Janelle Quigley placed first in 11:17, while teammate Tammy Wenkel was second in 11:56. Leslie McNamara took fifth (12:02) and was followed by Amy Arteme (13th, 12:31) and Jessie Thompson (15th, 12:42).

Southeast did not send a full men's team to the meet. Ryan Layton placed highest among three Indians competing, finishing 17th in 22:56.
