MUNCIE, Ind. -- Southeast Missouri State University's gymnastics team placed second among four teams on Friday in the Ball State Cardinal Classic.
Ball State won the meet with a score of 191.175. Southeast posted a 189.800, followed by Northern Illinois (186.150) and Winona State (185.650).
Although she suffered an off night on vault, Southeast junior Malia Roberts fared well on beam and bars, winning both events. Roberts, who placed third in the all-around with a 38.125 in large part because of an 8.850 on vault, scored a 9.800 on beam and a 9.775 on bars.
Southeast's Erin Chenier tied for second on bars with a 9.700.
On vault, the Otahkians' Stephanie Furman and Cristie Logan tied for third with a 9.625. Furman and Roberts tied for fifth on floor with a 9.700, and Kathy Smith took fourth on beam with a 9.675.
"It was a hard road trip for us," Southeast coach Kris Buchheister said. "But I thought we had some bright spots."
