Brian Giles' one-out single off reliever Mike Remlinger broke up a scoreless tie in the 10th and the Pittsburgh Pirates, shut out by Greg Maddux for nine innings, beat the Braves.

Charles Johnson drove in three runs, and six Florida Marlins pitchers helped beat the Mets in perhaps the final game of the season for both teams.
Brewers 5, Cubs 1
Lenny Harris had four hits, including a home run, and Glendon Rusch pitched seven strong innings to lead the Brewers over the Cubs.

Barry Zito took a perfect game into the sixth inning as the Oakland Athletics won their 15th straight. The streak is the longest in the major leagues since Seattle won 15 straight last season. Oakland completed its first 10-0 road trip, and the streak is the A's longest since they won 17 in a row from May 5-25, 1931.

Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer to help Johan Santana outduel Joel Pineiro and the Twins beat the slumping Mariners. Bret Boone homered for the Mariners, who have lost four of five and 13 of 22.
Yankees 7, Red Sox 0
Mike Mussina pitched a three-hitter and Bernie Williams homeredas the Yankees beat Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox to move a step closer to a seventh consecutive AL East title.
Indians 2, Tigers 1
Jim Thome homered twice and C.C. Sabathia pitched seven solid innings to lead the Indians over the Tigers.
White Sox 8, Blue Jays 0
On what might have been the final day of baseball at Comiskey Park this season, Jon Garland pitched his best game, shortly after Chicago chairman Jerry Reinsdorf criticized players for lack of effort. And many fans, perhaps preparing for another work stoppage that could begin Friday, stayed away as the White Sox beat the Blue Jays. Just more than 12,900 fans did show up on a sunny afternoon.

Todd Hollandsworth and Ivan Rodriguez homered to extend Texas' power surge and lead Chan Ho Park and the Rangers.
