Oran's Heuring, Elfrink selected all-state first team in baseball

Tyler Heuring and Dalton Elfrink helped power the Oran baseball team to the Class 1 final four.

The pair was rewarded with spots on the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association's all-state first team.

Elfrink tossed a one-hitter against St. Elizabeth in the state third-place game. He went 8-0 with a 3.02 ERA over 62 2/3 innings for the Eagles. He struck out 65 and walked 42. Elfrink, who was listed as an infielder, also was a force at the plate. He batted .338 with two homers, 37 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Heuring was the starting center fielder for the Eagles. He batted .453 with six homers, 40 RBIs and 39 runs scored.

Oak Ridge senior Brett Thomas, who will pitch at the University of Missouri next season, also earned a spot on the Class 1 first team. He was listed as an infielder after batting .482 with four homers, 31 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He only struck out once all season, and that came after injuring himself on a swing against Oran.

Thomas went 8-0 with a 0.66 ERA over 53 innings. He struck out 109 and walked 13.

Four local players earned spots on their respective class' second team. Oran sophomore Kody Moore (Class 1), Saxony Lutheran senior Spencer Sander (Class 2), Woodland senior Neil Johnson (Class 2) and Scott City sophomore Brett Dirnberger (Class 3) all were named to the second team.

Notre Dame junior Cody Heisserer (Class 3) and Chaffee freshman Cody Payne (Class 2) earned honorable mention.
