East Prairie's 24-run outburst in the second inning of a May 5 victory against Scott County Central exceeded anything currently listed in the Missouri State High School Activities Association record book, but it's not the best performance in state history.

East Prairie had several stats exceeding or tying current records listed in the book in its 24-6 victory against the Braves, who fell to 0-6 with the loss.

But Oran had a better inning on March 26, 2003, when it scored 29 runs en route to a 36-1 victory against Delta.

Oran assistant coach Larry Boshell said the school never reported the stats to MSHSAA.

"What good does that do you?" he said. "We're not trying to embarrass anybody. It was hard to take."

Boshell said a number of games that season were mismatches en route to the team's state runner-up finish in Class 1.

"We had some pretty bad scores that year. 33-2, 23-0, 23-2," he said.

Oran had 53 home runs that season, which would rank among the state's top single-season performances but is not included in the book.
