After a one out double from Ryne Wood, Cookson got his only hit of the game when he lined a ball off of the right-center field fence to end the game.

The state's top ranked team in Class 1 continued to hit for power, adding two home runs against the Red Devils. The Eagles (13-2) pounded out four home runs in a win over Leopold Wednesday. Tyler Nelson hit his seventh home run and Nathan Seyer hit his sixth as Oran did not score more than one run in any inning. James Reischmann was 2-for-4 with a double and Sam Burnett was 2-for-3 for Chaffee (9-10).

Trey Graviett picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing three unearned runs. Each team made four errors.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 15, Oran 2

Chaffee's freshmen had 12 of the team's 15 hits as the Red Devils won on the road.

Kegan Orr led Chaffee (10-2) with four hits, including two doubles and a triple. Mindy Hendrix added three hits and three RBIs, and Casey Guzman, Whitney Horrell and Sarah Dooley had two hits apiece.

Mallory Kiefer added a double and three RBIs for Chaffee. Horell pitched a complete-game four-hitter for her fifth win.

GIRLS SWIMMING

John Burroughs 152, Notre Dame-Cape 104, Notre Dame-St. Louis 66

Paced by two-first place finishes, Notre Dame finished second in a triangular meet at John Burroughs.

Lauren Bader turned in the Bulldogs' lone individual victory, winning diving with a 160.55 total. Notre Dame's 200 freestyle relay team of Abbie Fisher, Rachel Ruopp, Janelle Essner and Bader won in 1:59.13.

Notre Dame returns to action next week with the SEMO Conference meet at Central Pool. Diving will be held on Monday and the swimming competition will be held Tuesday.
