MARBLE HILL, Mo. — Oran showed off a well-rounded attack and put together a complete performance in a season finale victory at Woodland on Tuesday, May 9.

The 9-2 win set the stage for a strong playoff run for the Class 1, No. 2 ranked Eagles (15-4).

“This was a good win for us going into the district against a very solid Woodland team,” said Oran coach Joe Bickings. “I felt like we did a good job of being selective at the plate by drawing 11 walks and collecting 11 hits. The meat of our order contributed well.”

Oran was led by Nic Massey and Parker Bryant.

Massey finished 3-for-4 with two double and three RBIs, while Parker Bryant went 3-for-5 with a double, a RBI and two runs.

Parker Bryant also earned the win on the mound after throwing six innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walked batters.

“[Parker Bryant] did an excellent job on the mound,” Bickings said.

The Eagles didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard. The team jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Parker Bryant and Kole Burger scored on a single by Massey in the top of the first inning.

In the third inning, Oran extended the lead to 5-0 after Parker Bryant scored on a bases-loaded walk, Gabe Dirnberger singled to score Luke Peterson and Cooper Bryant scored on an error.

The Eagles widened the lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning after Kolten Payne scored on a single by Parker Bryant and Peterson scored on a double by Massey.

The Cardinals (14-9) trimmed the lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the inning, but Oran came right back and tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 9-2.

Those runs came when Brenden Campbell singled to score Cooper Bryant and Dirnberger scored on a bases-loaded walk.

“I like where we are heading into districts but we have to keep getting better in practice because now everyone is starting 0-0,” Bickings concluded. “The postseason is a whole new season for everyone.”

Oran is seeking its fifth consecutive district championship.

The Eagles received the top seed in the MSHSAA Class 1, District 2 Tournament, and will host the winner of fourth-seeded Delta (4-16) and fifth-seeded Richland (1-11) on Monday, May 15 at 2 p.m.
