Oran bounces back with pair of wins

ORAN, Mo. — The Oran baseball team picked up a pair of nice wins already this week.

The Eagles (3-2) won 12-0 over the Oak Ridge Blue Jays (1-1) on Wednesday, March 29, and 13-3 over the Leopold Wildcats (2-2) on Tuesday, March 29.

“It was really nice to see us be able to score crooked numbers in every inning,” said Oran coach Joe Bickings. “I thought we did a really good job of staying on pitches today and driving the ball to the opposite field. It was also nice to have home runs by [Luke Peterson and Carson Kern]. I still don't think we have all of our hitters locked in but it's still early in the season. I have confidence in our guys coming around. Our pitching was really good today as Parker Bryant looked sharp.”

Peterson and Kern had five and four RBIs, respectively, while Cooper Senciboy, Gave Dirnberger and Peterson finished the game with multiple hits.

Bryant earned the win on the mound after throwing four innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Kole Burger earned the win against Leopold after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one earned run on one hit with four strikeouts and three walked batters.

Kern started the game and pitched the first two innings. He didn’t allow any earned runs and struck out two while walking three.

Marshall Bradley pitched the final 1.1 innings and didn’t allow any earned runs on three hits with a strikeout.

“It was really good to see our kids fight back with a big third inning,” Bickings said. “We struggled early on and couldn't get the big hit. You have to credit Leopold as their defense and pitching had a lot to do with it. We struggled to throw strikes on the mound today but our pitchers battled when they didn't have their best stuff.”

Peterson and Kern each had a home run. Peterson finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a scored run while Kern went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run.

Payne (2-for-3 and scored two runs) was the team’s only other player with multiple hits.
