Oak Ridge and Delta picked up quality wins on Thursday leading up to their matchup on Friday in the Oak Ridge Softball Tournament.

Oak Ridge led off the event with a 7-2 win over Scott County Central. The Blue Jays scored in every inning with the exception of the fourth inning.

Kinsley Bogenpohl pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

“Kinsley is just a tough pitcher,” Oak Ridge coach Jim Simpson said. As a freshman, she understands how to pitch, which helps to set hitters up.”

Bogenpohl also went 2-for-4 at the plate, being one of three Blue Jays to collect multiple hits.

“I thought she did a great job of trying not to overpower anything, staying smooth, took what the pitcher gave her,” Simpson said.

Oak Ridge racked up 11 total hits as a team. Allison Seabaugh, Bogenpohl, and Makayla Rangel each collected a pair of hits for the Blue Jays.

Brianna Seiler, Kierstin Banks, and Kyla Pearson each knocked in a hit for Scott County Central. Khloe Tolle took the loss after allowing 11 hits and seven runs with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Oak Ridge started the season 0-2 but has since won three straight games to move up to 3-2.

“We are now believing in ourselves, which we had some self-doubt,” Simpson said. “Their softball IQ is improving immensely. Beginning in the year we weren’t covering bases the way we should and everything and we’ve worked really hard on softball IQ, knowing where to go, understanding the situations and that’s really progressing.”

Delta defeated Arcadia Valley 6-5 during the following game. Sadie Hornbuckle started the game for the LadyCats and threw for 3.1 innings while Olivia Wagoner came out of the bullpen to throw the remaining 2.2 innings with four strikeouts in relief.

Wagoner also broke the 4-4 tie in the fifth inning with an RBI ground out. She recently began to pitch for the LadyCats, hurling 15 strikeouts in her previous start.

Delta tallied ten hits as a team. Addison Nichols, Teriana Crowden, Presley Holweg, and Jolie Scherer each collected multiple hits for the LadyCats.

Delta and Oak Ridge will play each other during the round-robin event at 3 p.m. on Friday.
