The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association all-state team for Classes 4 and 5 was released Wednesday with a pair of Bulldogs players making the list.
Notre Dame junior Ryan Willen earned all-state honors on in boys basketball.
Willen led the Bulldogs in scoring at more than 22 points per game, including a 31-point performance in the Class 4 championship game.
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged right at 10 rebounds a game as Notre Dame finished runner-up in Class 4 with a 59-56 loss to Ruskin on Saturday.
Bulldogs senior Kristain Burger earned all-state honors in girls basketball.
Burger, who was also all-state in softball, averaged more than 19 points and 12 rebounds per game for the district-champion Bulldogs. Notre Dame fell to Farmington in the sectional round.
She is headed to St. Louis University in the fall on a softball scholarship.
Wedemeier signs
Notre Dame all-state soccer player Jack Wedemeier will continue his soccer career at Quincy University.
Wedemeier helped the Bulldogs bring home their second state title in the fall, scoring a school-record 30 goals to go along with 17 assists this past season. Notre Dame finished its season 26-1 with a 2-0 win over St. Dominic in the state title game.
Wedemeier was named co-Player of the Year in Class 2 along with Grant Ellison of St. Dominic.
Bauwens signing
Perryville senior Tyler Bauwens will sign a letter of intent today to play football at Lindenwood University.
Bauwens was an all-Jefferson County Conference selection at linebacker and tight end for the Pirates this past season.
Bauwens was one of the area's leading receivers with 27 catches for more than 300 yards.
Lindenwood has been a popular destination for area football standouts in recent years. St. Vincent graduates Kyle Kline and Chris Kline are both on the roster along with Jackson graduates Joel Penrod and Billy Uren. Central graduate Marcus Klund finished out an all-American career at Lindenwood this past season.
In the swim
Central freshman swimmer Susan Beth Scott will compete this weekend in the Can-Am Games in Montreal. The event serves as a qualifier for the Pan American Games later this summer in Brazil.
Scott in December was the youngest member of the U.S. team at the Paralympic Games in South Africa, and she qualified for the state high school swim meet this season in her first year of competition at the prep level.
