The Notre Dame softball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning to knock off Affton, its opponent in last year's Class 3 state quarterfinal.

Lauren Reinagel hurled seven innings, striking out seven and walking two to lead the Bulldogs to the 9-3 win Wednesday.

Reinagel went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Erika Reinagel added three hits, and Alecia Glaus smacked two doubles.

The Bulldogs defeated Affton 2-1 to advance to the state semifinals last year.

The Indians held off a seventh-inning comeback by the Rams to earn their first win of the season.

Olivia Schemel earned the win on the mound and drove in two runs at the plate for St. Vincent (1-4). Hannah Mudd added two RBIs and a double, while Kristin Mattingly tallied two hits.

Rachel Reed went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Macy Heisserer added two RBIs for Scott City (0-4).

The Notre Dame boys team ran away with the title.

Wynn McClellan captured first place in 16 minutes, 19 seconds.

Logan Davis, Dillon Klaffer and Ryan Johnson finished second through fourth, respectively. Matt Reinagel rounded out the varsity squad in sixth place.

On the girls side, Notre Dame took second place. Tori Pfau placed fourth (22:07) and Jessica Triller finished 10th.
