PERRYVILLE -- Notre Dame High's softball team -- and Jill Huber in particular -- had a big time here Wednesday afternoon.
Huber pitched a five-inning no-hitter as the Lady Bulldogs routed host St. Vincent 15-1 in a run-rule contest.
Huber struck out five and walked three as the Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 2-3.
"It was good to play again," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim, whose squad has been hampered by quite a few rainouts so far this season. "Jill pitched well."
Notre Dame had nine hits, two each by Becka Montgomery and Randi Senciboy. Senciboy drove in four runs and Montgomery had three RBIs.
The Lady Bulldogs play at Shawnee, Ill., today.
BASEBALL
Central 7, Sikeston 5 (8 innings)
SIKESTON -- Cape Central's Michael Minner pitched four scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win as the Tigers scored two runs in the eighth inning to beat host Sikeston Wednesday.
Chris Pobst squeezed home the go-ahead run in the eighth and Shane Gibson added an RBI double for insurance as the Tigers improved to 7-8. Pobst had 3 RBIs in the game and Gibson was 3-for-4.
Minner (2-0) was in relief of starter Craig Ringwald, who left the game in the top of the fifth after being hit by a pitch on the elbow.
Trailing 5-3 after four innings, Central knotted the score 5-5 in the fifth.
Brent Self took the loss for Sikeston.
In JV action, Central (4-5) lost 4-3. Rick Davis was the losing hurler.
Davis and Ty Fidler both had two hits for the JV Tigers, who had five hits in the game.
Central will have two games Saturday, at Festus (noon) and at CBC (4 p.m.).
Notre Dame 5, Fredericktown 0
Notre Dame improved to 7-1 with a shutout victory at home Wednesday.
Four pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout.
Ryan LeGrand started and worked three hitless innings, striking out four and walking one. Chris Canfield hurled one hitless frame, Nathan McGuire gave up one hit in one inning and Keith Hamm allowed one hits in two innings.
McGuire received credit for the win, improving his record to 5-0.
Canfield went 4-for-4 to pace Notre Dame's eight-hit attack. Dan Wittenborn added two hits.
Notre Dame broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth.
"It was our first game in a week and we were trying to get everybody in to pitch some," said Notre Dame coach Gregg Muench.
The Bulldogs will compete in the round-robin Potosi Tournament that starts Friday, facing Jackson at 5:30 p.m. and Pacific at 7:30.
Chaffee 6, Portageville 5
CHAFFEE -- After winning their own tournament this past weekend, Chaffee continued its winning ways Wednesday.
Phillip Blevins (2-0) started for the Red Devils (5-6) to earn the win, allowing four runs in four innings. Only one of the runs were earned.
Tommy Stidham pitched three dominating innings for the save, striking out six and walking none.
Portageville led 4-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, when Chaffee got four runs to take the lead. Josh Hanlon had the big blow, a two-out RBI double. Hanlon had two RBIs on the day.
Chaffee will play at Kelly Friday.
TRACK
Southern Division Conference
CHAFFEE -- Portageville raced away with the Southern Division Conference boys' championship Wednesday afternoon, with Kelly and host Chaffee right behind.
The Bulldogs totalled 126 points to win the conference title. Kelly, behind individual first-place finishes by Mike Riley, John Livingston and Travis Schiwitz, took second with 94 points.
Chaffee earned 68 points for third place. Phillip Groves earned first place in the shot put for the Red Devils.
East Prairie (45 points) took fourth place and Scott City totaled 20 points for fifth.
In girls action, Kelly won a very competitive meet over six other teams.
The Lady Hawks totaled 149 points to win the conference title. Chaffee (127 points), Scott City (98), Portageville (80), East Prairie (43) and Oran (9) followed.
Amy Arteme led Kelly to victory with two individual wins in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.
Scott City was led by Amy O'Brien and her four individual wins. O'Brien won all three of the jumping events -- the high, long, and triple -- to help Scott City to third. Chaffee had no individual winners.

Central beats Poplar Bluff
Cape Central rolled past visiting Poplar Bluff in dual action Wednesday, the girls prevailing 100-36 and the boys winning 78-46.
The Lady Tigers had three double individual winners: Laura Lukens in the discus and shot put; Elizabeth Kunz in the triple jump and high jump; and Micah Bohnsack in the 1,600 and 3,200.
"Elizabeth Kunz really had a good day," said Central girls coach Paula Watkins. "She went 5-4 in the high jump and 33-4 1/4 in the triple jump for her best of the season in those events."
The Tigers had one double individual winner as Will Harris claimed the long jump and triple jump.
"That 22-2 3/4 by Will in the long jump is really good for this time of the season," said Central boys coach Jerry Dement.

Central will host its annual Cape Relays Saturday.
GOLF
Jackson 160, Ste. Genevieve 164
STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jackson improved to 14-0 in dual and triangular matches with a road win Wednesday.
Travis Reiminger and John Litzelfelner both shot 39's to lead Jackson. Tyler Luebbers, Clint Faries and Matt Wilson all carded 41's.
Ste. Genevieve's Ryan Hornbeck was the medalist with 38.
Jackson will compete in the Sikeston Tournament Monday.
Dexter 167, Central 168
DEXTER -- Cape Central suffered a narrow road defeat Wednesday, falling to 6-6.
Dane McLaird led the Tigers with a 39. He was followed by Bryan Welker (42), Danny Groesbeck (43) and Karin Askelof (44).
The medalist was Dexter's Ryan Jacques (36).
Central will host Notre Dame and Poplar Bluff today in a triangular.
Notre Dame 166, Clearwater 206
PIEDMONT -- Notre Dame improved to 8-7 Wednesday with an easy road win.
Jonathan LeGrand earned medalist honors with a nine-hole score of 38. Matt Howard was right behind with a 39, followed by Dan Buerck (44), Chris Koeper (45) and Nick Spantgos (45).
SWIMMING
Clayton 89, Central 81
ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central's Lady Tigers suffered a narrow defeat on the road Wednesday as they fell to 5-7.
"It was a good, close meet," said Central coach Dayna Powell. "Clayton has a good team this year."
Grace Freeman won both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle to pace the Lady Tigers. Jean Maguire captured the 200 freestyle while Central's 200 freestyle relay team prevailed.
The Lady Tigers will compete in the big Parkway South Invitational Friday.
