HERCULANEUM, Mo. -- Notre Dame won its third district softball title in four years on Sunday, defeating defending champion Windsor 3-0 in the Class 3 District 2 final.
Miranda Schlosser, backed by a reliable defense, threw a three-hitter for her second shutout of the postseason. Schlosser, a sophomore right-hander, beat St. Pius 4-0 on a two-hitter in the tournament semifinals on Saturday.
Notre Dame had five hits and took advantage of three Windsor errors and a couple mental mistakes. The Bulldogs also stole six bases.
Notre Dame, 20-6, will host Wednesday's sectional round, where they'll play De Soto (20-5) at 4:30 p.m.). The winner will play in the quarterfinals Saturday at St. Louis Parkway Central where it will meet the survivor of the sectional matchup between Sullivan (18-8) and Lutheran South (20-8).
Windsor finished its season with a 17-5 record.
Notre Dame took charge of Sunday's district final by scoring twice on three hits in the second inning.
Schlosser and Heather Menz had hits and scored the Bulldogs' runs. Jessica Dock knocked in a run with an infield single, and Cortney Ostendorf picked up a RBI on a fielder's choice.
"I thought it'd take two runs to win today," Bulldogs Coach Jeff Graviett said.
Notre Dame picked up an insurance run in the fifth inning when Alana Weissmueller doubled to left field, stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
