Notre Dame battled from behind and for over two hours but emerged with a thrilling three-set volleyball victory over Farmington Monday night.
After dropping the opener 13-15, Notre Dame (5-1) overcame large deficits in the second and third sets to win 16-14, 15-13.
"It was a battle," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "They fought hard every game for every point. They didn't give up."
Sommer McCauley finished the marathon match with 95 assists, 15 service points and 17 digs.
"She was everywhere," Stroup said.
Erin Pfau recorded 16 kills while Laura Brown notched 10 kills and 10 blocks. Katie Beussink added eight kills and six blocks, and Kristen Boos had 14 service points and nine digs.
Notre Dame's JV won 15-8, 8-15,15-7.
Jackson 15-15 Dexter 13-4JACKSON, Mo. -- After a tough first game, Jackson (2-0) cruised to victory.
Jenna Leet led the way with nine kills, six digs and seven blocks. Jessie Koeper added four kills, six assists and seven blocks.
Meadow Heights 15-15 Chaffee 3-3CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Meadow Heights (2-1) used a dominating performance to roll past Chaffee.
Chelsea Bollinger led the attack with six kills and six digs. Jill Hahs added three kills and 10 digs, Jenna Ellis had five kills and nine digs and Rachael Welker had 16 assists.
"We had excellent passing tonight, which can make or break a game for you," head coach Erin Hoffman said.
For Chaffee (0-3), Jennifer Vandeven had seven kills and seven digs. Samantha Hendrix added four kills and Natalie Townsend had three.
Richland 5-15-15 Woodland 15-10-7RICHLAND, Mo. -- Woodland won the opening set but its quest for its first win of the season ended with a three-set loss.
Jenna Greer led Woodland (0-3) with five kills while Sierra Roberts had four. Kyla Hahn finished with seven service point.
Richland won the JV contest 14-16, 15-12, 15-5.
Bernie JV TournamentBERNIE, Mo. -- Leopold won the championship of the eight-team event held over the weekend, beating host Bernie 15-5, 16-14 in the finals.
Earlier in bracket play, Leopold defeated Central 15-6, 15-5 and Bloomfield 15-5, 15-6. In pool play, the Lady Wildcats beat Sikeston 16-14, 15-8 and Jackson 16-14, 15-8 while splitting with Poplar Bluff 15-9, 13-15.
Softball
Kelly 7, East Prairie 0EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Kelly sophomore Michelle Collins pitched a gem in her first start of the season, firing a two-hit shutout, with 11 strikeouts and three walks.
Kelly (2-1) jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. Monica Senciboy and Jennifer Burnett each had two hits, and Dana Essner added a two-run triple.
