The Poplar Bluff Mules boys tennis team ran into a bit of a buzzsaw Wednesday at home against the Notre Dame Bulldogs of Cape Girardeau.
Notre Dame won all nine of its varsity matches against the Mules for the sweep.
Top-seeded Angelo Sorrentino came the closest to picking up a victory for Poplar Bluff as he lost 8-5 to Charles West. No. 2 Tavian Towns lost 8-2 to Matthew Austin, while No. 3 Alejandro Rivetti lost 8-2 to Stephen Southard.
No. 4 Carson Todd fell 8-4 to Elijah Youngblood, while No. 5 Matthew Penn fell 8-1 to Owen Blattel and No. 6 Aiden Castillo dropped an 8-4 decision to Blake Schreckenberg.
Things didn’t go any better in doubles action, as Sorrentino and Rivetti fell 8-2 to West and Austin, Towns and Penn fell 8-1 to Southard and Youngblood, and Todd and Castillo lost 8-2 to Blattel and Schreckenberg.
In junior varsity action, the Bulldogs and Poplar Bluff split a pair of matches.
The Mules are slated to play Friday in a tournament at Farmington, weather permitting, before coming home Monday to host Farmington.
