OFALLON -- Notre Dame hit the crossbar three times, but was unable to net a goal Tuesday in a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime loss to St. Dominic in the semifinals of the St. Dominic Soccer Tournament.

Although Notre Dame (16-4-1) had the better scoring opportunities in regulation, St. Dominic netted the game's lone goal four minutes into the second overtime.

"We easily could have won three or four to nothing," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "We played really well for 60 minutes but I think we ran out of gas."

Notre Dame will play the winner of today's Clayton/Washington game Friday at 5 p.m. in the third-place game.

"I was very pleased with the way we played," said Wittenborn. "I couldn't have asked for a better effort."

VOLLEYBALL

Cape Central 14-15-15

Scott City 16-2-10

Cape Central rallied to win an exciting match and improve to 7-17-1.

Leaders for the Lady Tigers were Katie Cozby with eight kills and four service aces; Sarah Pfanstiel with five aces; Amber Birk with seven kills; and Andrea Birk with seven digs.

"It was very exciting," said Central coach Debra Spinner. "We had a good match."

Scott City's JV won 15-6, 15-6.

Jackson 15-15

Chaffee 7-2

CHAFFEE -- Jackson continued its dominating play as the Lady Indians improved to 23-6-2.

Andrea Koeper turned in another strong night with 11 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Jennifer Mesey added three kills, 11 digs and two aces; Erin Hartman had three kills and six digs; Jenna Leet had two kills, three digs and two aces; and Casey Randol turned in a team-high eight assists.

Jackson won the JV contest 15-1, 15-10.

St. Vincent 15-15

Perryville 7-12

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent improved to 8-16-2 by dropping its city rival.

Stacie Lane served eight points for the Squaws. Jessica Lakenan had six points and four kills while Danielle Sutterer contributed seven kills.

Perryville (9-16-1) got nine digs from Katie Buerck; eight digs and four blocks from Natalie Bohnert; seven digs from Katie Kutz; six points from Andrea Buerck; and three kills from Nichole Blechle.

St. Vincent won the JV match 15-8, 11-15, 15-9.

Bell City 6-15-15

Bloomfield 15-0-9

BLOOMFIELD -- Bell City rebounded from a first-game loss to improve to 13-10-2.

Katie Spears seven kills and 12 points; Jessica Shelby had 10 points and seven digs; and Kelli Steiner recorded 15 assists.

Woodland 15-15

Zalma 2-1

ZALMA -- Woodland improved to 21-5 with an easy victory.

For the Lady Cardinals, Lilo Whitener had five kills and three blocks; Jessica Bollinger had four kills; Sarah Booth added three kills; Julia Cutsinger dished out 10 assists; and Amanda Jordan had five assists.

Zalma's JV won 13-15, 15-11, 15-9.

Oran 16-15

Charleston 14-10

CHARLESTON -- Oran squandered a 14-8 lead in the opening set but recovered on the way to a sweep.

Sara Heisserer led Oran (9-12-2) with seven kills and four blocks. Mistie Senciboy added six kills.

Oran's JV won 15-3, 15-2 to improve to 17-6-1.

Leopold 15-15

Puxico 7-7

LEOPOLD -- Leopold is now 19-5 after an easy victory.

The Lady Wildcats' JV also prevailed 15-6, 15-7.
