Notre Dame runners fare well at Memphis meet

Led by a school-record performance by senior Wynn McClellan, the Notre Dame boys cross country team placed 12th at the Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.

McClellan covered the 3.1-mile course at Rose Soccer Park in 15 minutes, 58.63 seconds to place fourth individually in a race that featured 341 runners.

McClellan was just 12 seconds behind boys champion Max Holman of Tupelo, Miss.

"He just really ran a good race," Notre Dame coach Bill Davis said. "He was up there with some state champions."

Notre Dame senior Ryan Johnson placed 15th in 16:49.77. 88. The remainder of Notre Dame's team score of 360 was comprised of Cody Moore (88, 18:05.32), David Willems (131, 18:32.96) and Josh Johnson (134, 18:35.28).

West Plains, Mo., won the 43-team boys competition with 109 points.

Notre Dame placed 18th in the 36-team girls competition, which was won by North Gwinnett High School (Ga.).

Elizabeth Kiblinger (21:56.3) finished 66th to lead Notre Dame. Also figuring into the Bulldogs' 483-point team total were Jessica Triller (97, 22:32.69), Morgan Morris (103, 22:36.93), Tara Grojean (115, 22:51.82) and Alicia Landewee (146, 23:37.29).

The meet contained teams from seven states and featured numerous individual and team state champions.

"This was the toughest meet we've ever run in," Davis said. "It was an eye-opener."
