Notre Dame's softball team scored twice in the 10th inning Saturday to win the Class 3, District 2 championship with a 7-5 victory at home over Windsor.
Lindsay Reinagel pitched all 10 innings for her 18th win of the season. She gave up three earned runs, walked one and struck out one for the Bulldogs (20-6), who host District 1 champion Festus (20-6) in a 4 p.m. sectional game Wednesday.
Top-seeded Notre Dame trailed 4-0 after three innings, but moved ahead 5-4 with three runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Windsor, the second seed, scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out single by Andee Allen -- her fourth RBI of the day --to send the game into extra innings.
Whitney Ostendorf, who went 2-for-4, led off Notre Dame's winning rally with a single in the 10th. Stacy Schwartz followed with a walk and Sarah Michel laid down a sacrifice bunt. Ostendorf scored as the throw to first to retire Michel went wild. Sarah Berkbigler provided an insurance run by scoring Schwartz with a sacrifice fly.
Ashley Reinagel went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for Notre Dame. Alana Weissmueller added two hits.
Jackson 10, Farmington 0
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Elizabeth Nussbaum allowed just two hits as fourth-seeded Jackson routed fifth-seeded Farmington in the rain-delayed first round of the Class 4, District 1 tournament.
Nussbaum struck out seven and walked one for Jackson (7-19).
Megan Green and Kristen Roberts led Jackson with three hits apiece. Green had a triple among her hits and finished with two RBIs. Roberts had a double. Natalie Profilet scored three runs for the Indians.
Jackson will face top-seeded Central (19-5) in a 4 p.m. semifinal Monday. Poplar Bluff defeatedSikeston in another first-round game Saturday and will face second-seeded Hillsboro at 6 p.m. Monday in the other semifinal.
Kelly 9, St. Vincent 3
FESTUS, Mo. -- Top-seeded Kelly shut out East Prairie in a morning semifinal, then topped St. Vincent for the Class 2, District 1 championship.
In the semifinals, St. Vincent beat Principia 11-1 and Kelly beat East Prairie 10-0.
Kelly (17-4) will visit District 2 champion Elsberry (20-4) Wednesday in the sectional round.
Delta 9, Naylor 1
NAYLOR, Mo. -- Delta avenged a loss suffered earlier this season by defeating top-seeded Naylor in the championship game of the Class 1, District 1 tournament.
Delta (9-13), the second seed, had suffered a 5-1 loss to Naylor (15-4) in the regular season, but broke out to a 6-0 lead over the first two innings in the rematch. Tiffany Johnson saw her two-out pop fly dropped in the first inning to score two unearned runs.
Sarah Cook allowed just two hits, struck out seven and walked one.
Ashley Elliott had two hits for Delta, including a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Rebecca Cook also had a pair of hits for Delta, which had six overall.
Delta advanced to the final with an 8-1 semifinal win over Thayer earlier in the day.
Delta, winner of three straight district titles, will visit District 2 winner Purdy (20-2) Wednesday in a sectional game.
Boys' Soccer
CENTRAL 5, ROCK BRIDGE 1
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Central (12-5-1) cruised past Rock Bridge, the eighth-ranked team in Class 3, a day after defeating Columbia Hickman 2-1.
Heath Orr continued to light it up for Central, scoring three goals. Whitt Lynn and Chris Limbaugh had the other goals for the Tigers.
Calen Wills, Grant Hengst, Trey Willis and Jordan Duncan picked up assists.
Central's JV played to a scoreless tie.
Glendale 1, Jackson 0
ST. LOUIS -- Springfield Glendale used a second half goal to beat Jackson (4-11-1) in its first of two matchups versus Southeast Missouri opponents at the Anheuser-Busch Conference and Sports Centre.
Jackson's JV played to a scoreless tie.
Notre Dame 1, Glendale 0
ST. LOUIS -- Notre Dame (10-4) slipped past Springfield Glendale behind a first-half goal by Blake Urhahn.
Johnathan Market assisted on the lone goal while Travis Siebert posted the shutout.
Glendale came in ranked ninth in Class 3 in the state poll.
Notre Dame's JV improved to 7-1-3 with a 3-1 win. Will Lindman, Jason Delgado and Frank Blasiney picked up the goals.
Volleyball
SCOTT CITY TOURNAMENT
Scott City cruised to a 15-8, 15-2 victory over Oran in the championship game of the six-team Scott City Tournament.
Sidney Baer led the way with 12 kills and four blocks in the Rams' two matches. Megan Ressel had 11 assists and three aces in the championship match. Shana Wadlington played strong in Scott City's opening sweep of Chaffee with eight kills and three aces.
Oran made it to the championship game with straight set wins over Oak Ridge and Twin Rivers.
In the third-place game, Oak Ridge defeated Twin Rivers 15-13, 17-15.
Eagle Ridge 15-15, Grace 8-1
JOHNSON CITY, Ill. -- Eagle Ridge Christian School pushed its record to 11-1 with a road win over Grace of Johnston City, Ill.
Rachel Carbaugh led the way with 14 service points, 11 aces and four kills. Cara Ervin had three aces and nine kills.
Eagle Ridge's JV won 15-3, 15-6.
Cross Country
MARSHALL CO. INVITATIONAL
BENTON, Ky. -- Jackson's girls placed fifth and Jackson's boys were sixth out of approximately 35 teams in the 'A' division at the Marshall Co. Invitational.
T.J. Humphrey had the top finish for Jackson, finishing 25th in 18 minutes, 6 seconds on the 5K course. Rachel Lowes led Jackson's girls by placing 32nd in 21:30.
The top 35 runners medaled.
Notre Dame's varsity boys finished 12th in 'A' division. Sam Montgomery led Notre Dame with a time of 18:47.
Notre Dame's varsity girls placed 20th.
The Bulldogs finished fourth and third, respectively, in the boys 'B' and 'C' divisions.
Jackson placed fourth in girls 'B', sixth in boys 'B' and second in boys 'C'.
Potosi Invitational
POTOSI, Mo. -- Delta took first in the varsity girls small schools division.
Sarah M. Cook (23:35) was the only medalist at 22nd for the balanced Delta squad.
Delta's JV boys finished second in the small schools division, led by medalist Aaron Kander (20:16) in 15th place.
