Bulldogs clamp down on Sikeston's 3-point attack in Superman Classic.

Notre Dame's boys basketball team put in one of its most complete performances of the season in a 73-52 victory against Sikeston on Thursday at the Superman Classic in Metropolis, Ill.

Notre Dame (4-12) has now won two of three games after losing five straight.

"The last three games I've been pleased with our effort and we've played better," Notre Dame coach Darrin Scott said. "Tonight we got the fruits of that."

Notre Dame led 17-16 after the first quarter and led 33-30 at halftime. Sikeston had eight 3-pointers in the first half.

Sikeston hung with Notre Dame in the third quarter, with the score 49-46 heading into the fourth quarter. Notre Dame got the breathing room it needed in the final period, outscoring Sikeston 22-8.

"We did a better job of guarding the 3-point shot in the second half," Scott said.

Sikeston was limited to to four 3-pointers in the second half.

Bryce Willen led Notre Dame with 25 points, John Eric Klein had 19 and Alex Ressell had 11.

Scott-Miss. Tournament

Tyler Ward hit a shot with 3 seconds left to send the game into overtime and Scott City wrapped it up in the extra session to advance to the Scott-Mississippi Conference finals.

After beating Delta by 40 points at home last week, the Rams (11-3) had their hands full against the Bobcats at Kelly. Mark Dannenmueller led Scott City with 20 points, Tyler Ward had 16 and Jeremy Schlosser had 13. Ward added 11 rebounds and Schlosser had seven assists.

Kevin Bartels led Delta with 17 points, Cody Crowden had 16, Brent Menz had 14 and Zack Kelly had 12.

Scott City will face Scott County Central at 8 p.m. in the finals of the tournament tonight. Scott County beat host Kelly on a last-second shot 62-60.

In the JV tournament Scott City beat Oran 48-42 to advance to the finals.
