While the championship is out of the question, both Notre Dame and Oran can already call the U-High Tournament a relative success.
Relative in the fact that both teams will finish better than their seeding.
Oran, the 10th seed, and Notre Dame, the eighth seed, will meet in today's fifth-place game at 4:30 after victories on Tuesday.
Both teams bounced back from quarterfinal losses. Notre Dame defeated fifth-seeded Woodland 57-42 while Oran eked past Kelly 55-54.
In consolation semifinal play, seventh-seeded Scott County Central and ninth-seed Advance both moved on to today's 3 p.m. consolation final. Scott Central stopped Leopold 78-52 and Advance topped Bell City 67-30.
Notre Dame 57, Woodland 42
The Bulldogs received 20 points from Michael Wehner and led throughout in defeating the Cardinals.
David Massa scored a game-high 25 points for Woodland (6-2), but no other Cardinal scored more than seven points. Massa scored all 12 points for Woodland in the first quarter as Notre Dame (4-5) rolled out to a 19-12 lead. The Bulldogs held a 34-25 lead at halftime.
Oran 55, Kelly 54
The Eagles withstood a strong Kelly comeback to reach the fifth-place game.
Oran (6-3) took a 42-34 lead into the fourth quarter and saw Kelly (7-3) come back to take the lead. The Hawks took their first lead of the second half when Brett Burger hit a 3-point basket with 3:17 left for a 48-46 lead.
Several lead changes ensued with Oran moving ahead for good, 53-52, on a Billy Loper basket with 1:00 remaining.
After two Jerod Hamm free throws upped Oran's lead to 55-52 with 9.6 seconds left, Kelly had an opportunity to tie the game, but only managed an inside basket as time expired.
Daniel Wheeler netted a team-high 13 points for Oran and Ricky Eftink added 12.
Russ Mothershead paced Kelly with 14 points while Burger and Jason Glastetter scored 12 apiece.
Scott County Central 78, Leopold 52
Down 22-16 after the first quarter, the Braves exploded in the second period and outscored the Wildcats 26-9 to take a 42-31 halftime lead.
John Fort scored 33 points to pace Scott Central (7-2) and Jreece Johnson added 21 points.
For Leopold (5-5), James Ashton scored 20 points to lead three Wildcats in double figures. Adam Horrell and Brian Holzum each scored 12.
Advance 67, Bell City 30
Four players scored at least 10 points for Advance, which will face Scott County Central in the consolation finals.
Garrett Brushius scored 22, followed by Seth Cantrell with 20, Adam Rainey with 12 and Jonathan French with 10.
Advance (6-3) dominated throughout, taking a 22-6 lead into the second quarter and a 41-11 advantage into halftime.
Glenn Adams led Bell City (2-7) with nine points.
