Notre Dame and visiting Jackson played to an unusual 1-1 tie in high school girls soccer action Thursday.

The game was stopped with about 25 minutes remaining in the second half when the referees determined that the field was not safe for play after a heavy rain.

"There was a lot of deep, standing water and the referees decided it wasn't safe to play. That's their decision to make," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley, whose team now has a 5-15-2 record.

Said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan, whose squad is 13-4-3, "It was pretty bad on the field, and with districts coming up, it's not worth getting anybody hurt."

Notre Dame got the first goal about 12 minutes into the contest as Emily Worley scored, with an assist from Cyndi Cox.

Jackson got the tying goal 13 minutes later when Erin Hartman scored on a free kick.

The Lady Indians won the JV match 2-0 on goals by Laura Unverferth and Erin Mayfield.

Hellrich had two assists and a goal. Lori Bittle scored a goal and had an assist, Carrie Eller had two assists and Sara Brown and Alison Eaton each provided single goals while Jessica Ham and Cameron Bennett each had single assists.

Cape Central also played tremendous defense as goalkeeper Heather Hey had to make just three saves.

Central's JV posted a 2-1 victory.
