FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Notre Dame High's girls basketball team finally took control in the fourth quarter to pull out a 49-36 win over host Fredericktown Monday night.
Lisa Millham's three 3-point baskets -- she had all five of her team's treys -- in the fourth quarter helped lift a Lady Bulldog squad that had been lethargic to that point. Notre Dame outscored the Lady Blackcats 22-11 in the fourth quarter.
"The first half we just kind of played around," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim, whose team improved its record to 7-1. "We had nine turnovers in the first half, but only three in the second. We got some shots to fall in the second half, too, which always helps." Notre Dame, coming off a tough loss to crosstown rival Cape Central in its last outing, led 17-15 at halftime and maintained that two-point advantage at the end of the third period at 27-25.
Deana McCormick led Notre Dame with 18 points while Millham totaled 15 on her five threes.
Megan Brown paced Fredericktown with 15 points. Nickey Tucker added nine.
Scott City 54, Hayti 20
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Loren Groves and Jenny Pinkston both scored 18 points as the Lady Rams romped to improve to 4-2.
Rachel Spinks added 13 points for Scott City, which also got eight steals from Pinkston. The Lady Rams led 29-9 at halftime and 51-15 after three quarters.
"We're a young team, but we're coming around," said Scott City coach Randy White. "Tonight we were able to get everybody into the game." Chaffee 58, Delta 48 CHAFFEE, Mo. Jennifer Vandeven scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Chaffee pulled away late to knock off Delta.
The Lady Red Devils, now 3-3, led just 42-40 after three quarters but they outscored the Lady Bobcats 16-8 in the final period.
Morgan Kiefer added 17 points for Chaffee while Mallory Kiefer contributed 11.
Delta got 24 points from Rebecca Cook and 19 from Rebecca Below.
"It was a good win for us," said Chaffee coach Tammy Brock. "We really had a total team effort."
Kelly 53, East Prairie 22
BENTON, Mo. -- The Lady Hawks continued to roll as they dominated East Prairie to improve to 7-0.
Kelly led 43-8 at halftime, then pulled its starters for the entire second half.
"The girls came out and played as a team, very unselfishly," said a pleased Kelly coach Rod McQuerter. "They were looking (to pass) for each other all night." Bridgett Riley and Marissa Essner led Kelly with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Scott Co. Central 50, Oran 44
MORLEY, Mo. -- Scott County Central broke open a tight game in the final quarter to slip past Oran.
The Bravettes (2-2) rallied with a 19-10 advantage in the final stanza to overtake the Lady Eagles.
Oran (1-3) held a one-point lead, 23-22, at the half and led by three at the end of the third period, 34-31.
Brandy Miller led Scott County Central with a game-high 32 points.
Ashley Dirnberger paced Oran with 16.
EIGHTH GRADE BOYS
Cape Central sweeps Cape Central's eighth grade teams swept two from Charleston, the 'A' squad winning 54-45 and the 'B' squad prevailing 49-20.
The Tigers took the 'A' game 54-45 with Lorenzo Braxton leading the way with 20 points. Brandon Twiggs added 12.
Gabe Edwards and Darrell Haynes, scoring 17 apiece, led the 'B' squad.
The 'A' team improved to 5-1 while the 'B' team remained undefeated at 3-0.
