The Notre Dame baseball team clashed with fellow Bulldogs from Sikeston and lost 10-4 on Tuesday at Notre Dame Regional High School. This loss drops the Bulldogs in blue to an overall record of 11-10 and a SEMO Conference record of 3-4.

Notre Dame was held to just four hits while reaching base via walk seven times and striking out five times. The Bulldogs were led by junior Reid Morgan who went 2-4 with an RBI and came around to score himself once.

Notre Dame head coach David Lawson said the starting pitcher of Sikeston, Carter Goodman, threw the ball well and his team just could not figure out the answer to him.

“He pitched a lot of strikes and got in the zone early, he went out there and threw strike one and attacked us. Offensively we didn't have a whole lot of hits, when you got a good guy throwing you have to figure out a way to compete a little bit better and try to get him out of the game a little bit sooner,” Lawson said. “Our hitting wasn't there today, our pitching was okay, good enough to get us a chance but hitting just didn't happen.”

Four pitchers split time for Notre Dame, TJ Bolen started the game and went three innings with two strikeouts and just one walk while giving up two earned runs. Tyler Gamel, Lawson Mills and Channing Pattengill each came in for relief and totaled four strikeouts to just three walks, but gave up seven earned runs.

Notre Dame has two days off before the SEMO Conference Tournament begins and Lawson said his team will put this game behind them to focus on this weekend.

“We’ve got two days of practice to get ready for the weekend, which gives us a day to ease into it tomorrow. What the game kind of does for you is give you chances to learn and that's the good part, you get the next day and you have to learn to forget,” Lawson said. “If you don't learn to forget in baseball then you're going to be sorry. If you can’t forget about the day before you're probably gonna lose the next one too.”

In the first round of the SEMO Conference Tournament, #3 Notre Dame will host #6 Dexter on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
