Notre Dame's baseball team used a strong pitching performance from Lee Essner and a big fifth inning to 10-run rule Poplar Bluff 11-1 in six innings Monday on the road.

Essner pitched a compete game, striking out eight and allowing six hits. Notre Dame (6-3) took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning, where it scored six runs.

Notre Dame's offense erupted for 11 hits. Andy Ralls led the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBIs. Dustin Tatum was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Kyle Diveley, Matt Smith and Wayne Essner added two hits apiece.

The win puts the Bulldogs at 5-1 in the conference heading into today's matchup with Jackson.

"Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to play for the conference championship against Sikeston in a few weeks," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said.

Advance 11, Oak Ridge 0

Dustin Sexton pitched a no-hitter and Advance won in six innings on the road against Oak Ridge.

Sexton walked two and fanned six. His counterpart, Austin Morrison, went all six innings and allowed three earned runs on nine hits.

Oak Ridge made five errors leading to eight unearned runs.

Advance's Aaron Abernathy went 3-for-3 with a double. Eric O'Hare and Jason Bahr each had two hits, including a triple apiece.

North County 13, Jackson 0

North County, the second-ranked team in Class 3, pounded 14 hits off Jackson pitchers and shut out the visiting Indians in five innings.

Josh Snell allowed seven earned runs in 2 2/3 innings for Jackson (5-5). Scott Hubbard led North County with a 4-for-4 day. Alex Winters went 3-for-3, including a home run. Adam Howard was 3-for-4 with all three hits going for doubles.

Jackson, which committed four errors, had just one hit off winning pitcher Shea Brady.

Woodland 8, Leopold 1

Woodland (6-4) made its home debut and cruised past Leopold behind solid pitching.

Dillon Yount (3-0) worked six innings, gave up one run on five hits, walked five, and fanned 10 for the win.

Chris Huffman went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Woodland. Luke Johnson doubled twice, and Matt Upchurch and Scott Crader each had two hits, including a double apiece.

SOFTBALL

Leopold 17, Woodland 0

Mary Beth Bohnsack shut out Woodland on three hits as Leopold won at home in five innings.

Lori Vandermierden and Holly Jansen led the offense with 3-for-4 performances and three RBIs apiece. Toni Eftink went 3-for-3 and added two RBIs. Becky Seiler added a pair of hits and Leopold (6-0) had 14 overall.

Bohnsack (2-0) struck out one and walked one. She was helped out defensively by catcher Courtney Wesbecher, who threw out three runners on steal attempts.

East Prairie 6, Delta 5

Delta suffered its first loss of the season as East Prairie rallied from a 5-2 deficit at home.

The Bobcats scored all five of their runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead. Delta (6-1) put together six of its nine hits, including a two-run double by Tiffany Johnson, in the outburst. East Prairie answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Rebecca Cook, on in relief of Ashley Martin, suffered the loss.

Johnson and Martin each went 3-for-4 for Delta.

Oak Ridge 10, Advance 4

Oak Ridge blew open the game with five runs in the fourth inning and defeated Advance at home.

Erin Hahs went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Mindy Ruch had a triple in the Blue Jays' 10-hit attack.

Laura Glueck (3-3) went all seven innings and struck out four for Oak Ridge (3-3).

GIRLS SOCCER

St. Vincent 3, Windsor 1

Caitlin Hoeh scored all three goals for the Squaws as St. Vincent posted a Jefferson County Conference victory at home.

Windsor scored just four minutes into the game, but Hoeh tied the score 11 minutes later off a pass from Amanda Carron. Hoeh added her 13th and 14th goals of the season in the second half off feeds from Rachel Hadler and Kelsey Kutz. St. Vincent improved to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

GOLF

Poplar Bluff Tournament

Jackson finished third out of 15 teams in the Poplar Bluff tournament.

The Indians finished tied for second with Northwest-House Springs, but in the tie-breaker Northwest's fifth golfer finished ahead of Jackson's. Central finished tied for fourth with Poplar Bluff, four strokes behind Jackson. Notre Dame finished 14th, nearly 40 strokes behind Jackson.

Central's Todd Obergoenner and Jackson's Matt Litzelfelner tied for third individually with 74's. Blake Driskell shot a 77 for Central, and Eric Fraley and Chad Reiminger shot 80s for Jackson.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Visitation 123, Notre Dame 66

Janelle Essner picked up Notre Dame's only win in a dual loss on the road.

Essner won the 500 freestyle in 6 minutes, 16.9 seconds.
