Notre Dame, the defending state champion in Class 2 boys soccer, opened the season at home Monday with a 10-0 win against Kennett.

The game was stopped with about 12 minutes left because of the 10-goal mercy rule.

Ryan Willen and Ty Williams both scored two goals for the Bulldogs, while Matt Kiblinger, Trenton Vance, Josh Robert, Chris McMillan, Brock Dirnberger and Nick Wren all added a goal.

Joda Holloway led in assists with three, followed by Willen and John Unterreiner with two each. Robert and Dirnberger also had assists.

Ryan Bass and Austin Westrich shared the shutout.

Saxony Lutheran 11, St. Louis Metro 1

Bryant Steffens scored four goals to lead the Crusaders in a season-opening victory.

Ben Courtois and Garrett Fritsche each added two goals, while Joe Buerck and Andrew Etzold rounded out the attack with a goal apiece.

SOFTBALLScott City 11, St. Vincent 0

Scott City won in five innings at home and evened its record at 2-2.

Emily Essner got the win with a one-hitter.

Becky Holder had three hits for Scott City.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 and will host the 12-team SoftballFest this weekend.
