Notre Dame High's Bulldogs will play the first official basketball game in the new school's gymnasium tonight.
And it figures to be a special christening because the Bulldogs will take on arch rival Cape Girardeau Central. The tipoff is set for about 7:30 p.m., after the junior varsity contest that begins at 6.
"It should be an exciting way to play our first game in the new gym," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "It's always a special night when Cape Central and Notre Dame get together."
Both teams lost their season openers over the weekend in the New Madrid Riverbend Classic but both squads have hopes of improved seasons. Central was 11-15 last year while Notre Dame went 7-15.
Notre Dame lost to Cardinal Ritter 78-62 Friday while Cape Central fell to Memphis (Tenn.) East 63-51 Saturday.
"It's always a good game against Notre Dame, and with the new facility, it should be exciting," said Central coach Brett Reutzel. "I know they'll be excited to play in their new gym and we're looking forward to it.
The squads will also meet next Tuesday in the first round of the Sikeston Tournament.
