Notre Dame staged a three-run seventh-inning rally against Cape Central Saturday and went on to defeat the Tigers 7-5 in eight innings.

The game wrapped up the rain-plagued Big 8 Tournament, which began the previous weekend.

Eureka won the tournament title with a 3-0 record while Notre Dame (12-6) finished at 2-1. Cape Central ended tournament play with a 1-2 record.

"This was a good game for us to come back and win," said Notre Dame coach Gregg Muench. "Hopefully it will carry over."

The Tigers scored in four of the first five innings and outhit the Bulldogs 14-8.

Josh Eftink blasted a two-run homer for Notre Dame in the first inning, but Cape Central retaliated with five-unanswered runs, scoring one in the first, two in the second and single runs in the third and fifth innings.

In Notre Dame's seventh, Ryan LeGrand had a two-run single before Tommy Wencewicz singled home the tying run.

With runners at first and third with one out in the eighth, Bryan Drury doubled off Michael Minner to put Notre Dame ahead 7-5.

Brian Obermann picked up the win, allowing just one run over the final five innings. He relieved Keith Hamm, whose shoulder tightened, in the fourth. He allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked no one.

"Brian came in and did an outstanding job," said Muench.

Minner suffered the loss for Central.

Eftink and Scott Reinagel each finished with two hits.

Ross Bennett had three hits for Cape Central while Mitch Ogles and Paul Dobbins had two apiece.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in conference action.

South Pemiscot 7, Kelly 0

STEELE -- South Pemiscot pitching stranded 12 Kelly runners en route to a shutout victory.

Kelly (10-4) had just four hits, two coming off the bat of John Livingston.

Jason Glastetter suffered the loss. He allowed seven hits in four innings, walking three and striking out one. He allowed six runs, including five earned.

South Pemiscot scored four runs in the first and added two in the second for a 6-0 lead.

"Right now we need to get our offense going," said Kelly coach Mike Scott. "South Pemiscot is an outstanding team."

GIRLS SOCCER

Cape Central 2, Fort Zumwalt South 0

ST. LOUIS -- The Amanda Hiler- Kim Aslinger connection is all the Lady Tigers needed Saturday to remain unbeaten.

Hiler scored both of Cape Central's goals off passes from Aslinger.

Hiler headed in the game's opening goal 26 minutes into the first half. Five minutes later Hiler kicked home a cross from Aslinger.

The victory improved Central's record to 14-0-1 and was the Lady Tigers' 12th shutout.

"I'd say it was one of our most complete games of the year as far as doing good things the whole game," said Cape Central coach Tom Doyle.

The Lady Tigers will visit Carbondale on Monday.
