Hunter Bonham drove in two runs on a double to cap a five-run rally as Notre Dame defeated Portageville 13-12 in the Battle of the Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 19, at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau.

"I was pretty stressed out but I knew I had to do something about it," Bonham said.

Notre Dame entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 12-8. The comeback began when Channing Pattengill led off with a base hit, followed by Lawson Mills reaching base after being hit by a pitch, and Logan Landewee walked to load the bases.

Notre Dame then scored three runs on the next three batters after Brett Dohogne hit an RBI single, Jack Cozean Jr. drew a walk, and Landewee scored after Reid Morgan grounded into a fielder's choice.

Brycen Clark drew a walk to reload the bases for Bonham to play the hero with two outs. Notre Dame went from trailing as many as 9-0 entering the bottom of the third to winning in walk-off fashion.

"I knew this would be a rough one," Bonham said. "We came out as a team together, and we did our jobs."

Clark led Notre Dame at the plate with three hits and three RBIs. Morgan also drove in three runs despite a 1-for-4 night.

Jack Evans started the game on the mound and lasted three innings after surrendering eight runs (two earned) on six hits. He tried to redeem himself at the plate with an RBI double in the third inning. Bonham came in relief for two innings and Morgan threw in the seventh.

Xayvion Bogan led Portageville at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. Carson Bradley also drew in three runs, followed by two RBIs from Mason Adams, who started the game on the mound.

Notre Dame is 2-1 so far in Dave Lawson's first season as head coach.

"Like Coach [Lawson] said, it's going to be a roller coaster but if we stick to our plan and we work together as a team, we'll be successful," Bonham said.
