CUBS: Left-hander Ron Mahay accepted an assignment to Triple-A Iowa after being recalled from an injury rehab assignment. After being reinstated on the active roster, Mahay had his contract outrighted to Iowa -- conditional on his acceptance. Also, right-hander Carlos Zambrano was suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in a bench-clearing brawl June 4 at a Triple-A game in Utah. He is now on the Cubs' major league roster.

DH-FREE DAYS: For the first time in nearly 30 years, a designated hitter did not come to bat in a full day of major league baseball games. A full slate of games was scheduled to be played Friday without a designated hitter for the first time since the American League implemented the rule for the 1973 season.
