MALDEN, Mo. — The bats were on fire for the New Madrid County Central baseball team as they dominated Malden in a lop-sided 19-1 victory in five innings at Malden High School on Tuesday, April 4.

“It was a total team effort today,” said NMCC coach Joseph McClarty. “It’s always nice to get a win in your district. I’m proud of the way the kids showed up ready to play. We could have had a letdown after a conference win the previous day. Now we have to turn our focus to some really good teams we have coming up on the schedule.”

The Eagles (4-2) scored eight runs in the first inning, one run in the second, two runs in the third and eight more runs in the fifth.

NMCC’s top performers at the plate were Ayden McCanless (3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs), John Harris (2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs) and Brady Swims (2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs).

Brandon Waters (triple), Carson Pfeffer (double) and Gage Sweatt (single) had the team’s other hits.

Clay Cope earned the win on the mound. He threw two innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walked batter.

Harris and Pfeffer threw one inning each and recorded two strikeouts while not allowing any runs or hits.
