David J. Mansfield

Marine Pfc. David J. Mansfield, son of Garry R. and Amelia J. Mansfield of 982 County Road 651, Cape Girardeau, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, and was meritoriously promoted to his present rank.

Mansfield successfully completed 11 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Mansfield joins 41,000 men and women who will enter the Marine Corps this year from all over the country. He is a 1995 graduate of Jackson High School.

Michael E. Overschmidt

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael E. Overschmidt, son of Michael and Susan Overschmidt of Glen Allen, has returned to Mayport, Fla., from a six-month overseas deployment aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City, which included duty in the Persian Gulf near Iraq and in the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia.

Overschmidt is one of the 400 Sailors aboard the ship who completed the 30,000-mile voyage.

The 1991 graduate of Woodland RSD 4 High School of Marble Hill, joined the Navy in June 1991.

Gary Newman

Marine Lance Cpl. Gary D. Newman, son of retired Master Sgt. and Mrs. Gary D. Newman Sr. of Jackson, was recently meritoriously promoted to his present rank while serving with 1st Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion, 3rd Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Ariz.

The 1993 graduate of Jackson High School joined the Marine Corps in January 1995.

Jason P. Hotop

Marine Cpl. Jason P. Hotop, son of Steven and Cheryl Hotop of Perryville, was recently meritoriously promoted to his present rank while serving with Battalion Landing Team 2/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

The 1992 graduate of Perryville High School joined the Marine Corps in January 1993.
