NEW MADRID COUNTY CENTRAL, Mo. — New Madrid County Central continued its undefeated run this season, securing a convincing 27-0 win over Caruthersville at NMCC High School on Friday, September 22.

The Eagles’ (5-0) offense was led by quarterback BJ Williamson who ran for 219 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown, the senior also connected with fellow senior Jadis Jones for a touchdown pass. Williamson exited the game five minutes into the third

“My knee hyperextended,” Williamson said. “I really didn’t want to come out, it was the coach's decision. I think with a little rest I will be back ready to play. ”

Freshman Nolan Mungle replaced Williamson with the NMCC up 21-0.

“We played it safe and kept him out of the rest of the game,”  said NMCC coach Tyler Fullhart.

Mungle would connect on his first passing attempt with Jones for a 17-yard touchdown just minutes later. Mungle would finish out the contest going 5-of-8 in the air with 54 yards.

Jones ended the game with six catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

“They are a team and the next guy stepped up and we did fine,” Fullhart said. “It seems like week to week something happens that makes us change what our mindset is or what we have planned, we have to get back to work this week and see what we got.”

Defensively the Eagles were too much for Caruthersville’s ground attack, holding the Tigers to just 136 positive rushing yards and 49 yards of loss yardage.

The Tigers (3-2), held scoreless for the first time this season, only managed 24 passing yards.

“We take a lot of pride in defense,” Fullhart said. “[NMCC assistant] coach [Jake] Kimball does a great job with defense. Our defensive guys take a lot of pride in being out there and making plays. I am just proud of the way the defense played, it really helped the whole team out.”

Besides Williamson’s 143 yards, Ty Williams collected 46 yards on the ground on nine carries and one touchdown with Charlie Ressano adding 55 yards on 11 carries.

Jermonte Alexander’s 56 yards rushing led Caruthersivlle’s ground game with Sammy Bryant adding 36 yards.

Ryan Guest went 5-of-6 in the air with 24 yards.

Gabriele Tomatis added three extra points.

“I am really proud of the way the guys came out and competed early on,” Fullhart said. “We took a couple of blows and we had to finish with a couple of other guys. I am proud of the guys for stepping up. I am proud of the guys who played and continue to do their job.”

Next Friday, NMCC will host Kennett (4-1). The Indians are coming off a 36-30 over East Prairie (1-4).

Caruthersville will travel to Dexter (4-1).
