Notre Dame and Woodland advanced to the championship game of the Class 2A, District 3 Volleyball Tournament with two-set victories in Tuesday night's semifinals at Notre Dame High School.
Top-seeded Notre Dame, the defending district champions, swept No. 4 St. Vincent 15-2, 15-3 to improve to 26-2 on the season.
Woodland, seeded second, defeated No. 3 Bloomfield by identical 15-6, 15-6 scores.
Notre Dame and Woodland will meet for the district title tonight at 7 p.m.
"We played really well," said Notre Dame coach Janet Buchheit. "We were fired up and played well as a team. We're ready to play Woodland (tonight)."
For Notre Dame, Jennifer Glueck and Jessica Hency each finished with four kills while Erin Vickery and Kelli Canfield both had three kills. Sara Westrich tallied four aces and 14 assists.
St. Vincent advanced to the semifinals with a 15-11, 15-9 victory over No. 5 Chaffee.
Bloomfield ended No. 6 Scott City's season with a three-set victory, winning 15-10, 13-15, 15-11. Scott City closed the campaign with a 4-15-3 record.
Whitney Baer had nine blocks and two kills for the Lady Rams. Amy O'Brien recorded 17 assists and Megan Noon had three kills.
BOYS SOCCER
Notre Dame 3, Poplar Bluff 3
POPLAR BLUFF -- Poplar Bluff scored with 10 minutes left and tied Notre Dame at home Tuesday. Notre Dame led 2-0 at one point and 2-1 at halftime.
Notre Dame, which will host Cape Central today, is 14-4-4.
Notre Dame's Mark Behrle scored in the seventh minute and Oliver Sanders scored on a pass from Jason Garner about 14 minutes later.
In the second half, Corey Elfrink scored on a pass from Garner midway through the half.
Notre Dame's JV team ended its season with a 1-0 win. Luke Oliver had the goal and Chris Dirnberger an assist. Notre Dame finished 11-4-3.
Jackson 7, Farmington 2
FARMINGTON -- Jackson, unbeaten since Sept. 12, ended its regular season 12-3-6 with an easy win on the road Tuesday. The Indians lost only one match this season in regulation.
Jackson, the top seed, will begin district play Tuesday against either Sikeston or Farmington.
"We've had a really successful season," said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan. "We'd like to play a little longer."
Spencer Knowlan scored three goals, Brandon Blattel added two and Raju Dirnberger and Chris Schuette each had one.
Chris Kohm and Blattel each had two assists and Zane McClard and Ben Turner each had one.
FRESHMEN FOOTBALL
Cape Central 20
Perryville 0
PERRYVILLE -- The Tiger freshmen ended their season at 7-1 with a shutout victory on the road Tuesday.
Central led 7-0 at halftime on a 3-yard run by Otis Turner. The score was set up by a 64-yard scamper by Jamel Austin.
In the second half, Central scored on a 41-yard pass from Jeff Dunaway to Justin Welker and Nick Harter scored on a short run.
Ryan Emmendorfer kicked two extra points.
BASKETBALL
Central's 8th grade girls win
Cape Central's `A' and `B' teams won in eighth grade girls action Tuesday against Sikeston.
CentraI's `A' team improved to 3-2 with a 35-10 victory. Kim Pancoast scored 11 points for Central and Amanda Harris added 10.
In the `B' game, Kassie Frazier scored 10 points as Central improved to 1-2 with a 25-16 victory.
