Notre Dame Regional High School's softball team continued a sizzling start to its season with a 10-0, six-inning victory over visiting Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

The shutout was the third of the week for Notre Dame (3-0), which has outscored its opponents 24-0 this season.

Robyn Beel (1-0) limited Poplar Bluff to two hits, striking out four and walking none.

Rachel Ruopp led the Bulldog offense with a two-run home run in a four-run second inning. Ruopp finished with two hits and two RBIs. Laura Weissmueller went 3-for-4 as Notre Dame had 14 hits overall. Whitney Ostendorf, Katie Daniel and Lindsey Reinagel each had two hits. Ostendorf tripled, while Daniel and Reinagel each doubled.

Notre Dame returns Thursday against Sikeston in the Notre Dame Softballfest.

Jackson 5, Hillsboro 4

Jackson scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a home win in its season opener.

Elizabeth Nussbaum recovered from early bouts of wildness to pick up the complete-game win. Nussbaum walked six, struck out five and allowed three hits. Jenny Schlick had a triple for Jackson, which had five different players pick up an RBI.

Jackson will participate in the Cor Jesu Tournament today and Saturday. Jackson will play four games, facing Claremore, Okla., and Cor Jesu today.

GIRLS TENNIS

Kennett 6, Jackson 2

For the first time in coach Linda Adams' nine-year tenure at Jackson the Indians are 0-2 to start the season.

Jackson's Kelly Mitchell improved to 2-0 in No. 1 singles but was Jackson's only singles winner. Mitchell and doubles partner Sarah Hinkebein had the only doubles win. Megan Beil was tied at six in her singles match before it was called due to rain.

Jackson's JV won 8-2.
