Notre Dame's boys basketball team used a hot-shooting second half to pull away from Kelly and grab a 79-60 victory in a makeup game on the road Saturday night.

The Hawks (7-6) used a 14-point first-half performance from Chris Romas to grab a 31-29 halftime lead. Romas and Trey Simmons combined for 26 of Kelly's 31 first-half points.

The Bulldogs (11-5) came out strong in the third quarter and grabbed the lead right away. At the end of three quarters the Bulldogs had raced to a 55-41 lead.

Wayne Essner led the Bulldogs with 24 points. Cory Buessink added 14 points. Romas led the Hawks with 28 points, and Simmons finished with 15.

Hickman 63, Jackson 33

Columbia Hickman shot 7-of-9 from 3-point range in the second half and cruised at home against Jackson.

The Indians (7-8) led 9-8 in the first quarter, but after that it was all Hickman (9-4).

Tyler McNeely finished with 17 points.

Girls basketball

CENTRAL 45, ST. LOUIS NOTRE DAME 32

Central took a 26-21 lead at halftime and held St. Louis Notre Dame to 11 second half points to win on the road.

After keeping it close at 14-13 after one quarter, Notre Dame failed to reach double digits in scoring the next three quarters.

Anna Brisso led Central (9-5) with 17 points. Alex Wieser chipped in 12 points, and Vicki Wilson added nine.

Scott-Miss. Tournament

In semifinal games postponed from Thursday, top seeds Delta and Kelly advanced to Wednesday's championship game.

No. 1 Delta (12-1), used a big fourth quarter to fend off a pesky Charleston squad 44-31. Rebecca Below led Delta with 14 points. Rebecca Cook added 13 for the Bobcats.

In the other semifinal game No. 2 Kelly (9-4) used three double-digit scorers to defeat the Bravettes 47-36. Dana Essner led Kelly with 12 points. Christy Kluessner and Cara Scherer had 10 apiece for the Hawks. Jennifer Hoots led Scott County Central with 13 points.

Wrestling

CENTRAL FINISHES FIFTH

Central tied for fifth at the St. Charles Tournament, placing seven wrestlers in the top six or better.

Trever Duncan won at 160 pounds and improved to 26-2. Matt Welker and Jonathan Poston finished fourth at 119 and 130 pounds respectively. Cory Huskey finished fifth at 152 pounds, and Chris Griffith and Brandon Hinkle finished sixth at 103 and 145 pounds.

Eureka won the tournament with 363 points. Troy, MICDS and Sikeston rounded out the top four. Central and Warrenton tied for fifth.

Other Events

Central took home four top-four finishes at the McCluer North JV Wrestling Tournament. Joey Hodge was the Tigers' individual champion at 119 pounds. Dan Martin took third place at 152 pounds, and Aja Ruetzel and Russell Smith took fourth place at 125 and 160 pounds.
