BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Notre Dame and rival Scott City will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals of the Class 2A, District 2 boys basketball tournament Thursday night after both teams posted blowout first-round victories Tuesday night.
Notre Dame used a 21-7 advantage in the third quarter to pull away from Puxico 83-51.The Bulldogs had four players in double figures including Jonathan Ressel with 18, Doug Schaefer with 12, Mark Rubel with 11 and Scott Wittenborn with 10.
Scott City (18-8) disposed of Greenville 54-34.
Nick Steimle posted a team-high 12 points and 12 rebounds. Michael O'Brien added 11 points and D.J. Walton posted 10.
"They really slowed it down," said Scott City coach Derek McCord. "It was slower than we preferred, but we executed our offense and our shot selection was good."
Scott City, which led 12-7 after the first quarter and 20-16 at halftime, outrebounded Greenville 37-26 and led the turnover margin 19-12.
Class 1A, District 2
ORAN, Mo. -- Scott County Central, the No. 5 seed, stunned top-seeded Advance 47-40 Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Class 1A, District 2 Tournament.
In the other semifinal game, No. 3 Richland bumped off No. 2 Oran 75-62.
Scott Central got 20 points from Todd Blissett and outscored Advance 15-8 in the first quarter. The Braves led19-12 at halftime.
Advance had no player scored in double figures.
Oran ended its season at 18-8 despite 16 points from Adam Friga, 15 from Nathan Seyer and 12 from Garrett Cook.
The Eagles held a 35-29 halftime lead, but were outscored 26-16 in the third quarter.
Sherome Cole led Richland with 25 points, while Shawn Gibson added 14.
Class 1A, District 3
FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- St. Vincent outscored Oak Ridge 19-3 in the third quarter and had four players score at least 11 points as the Indians knocked off Oak Ridge 64-47 in the first round of the Class 1A, District 3 tournament.
Mark Gotto led St. Vincent (18-7) with 17 points, followed by Tyler Wengert with 13 and Ryan Brown and Nick Emmendorfer with 11 apiece.
Jeff Cowan and Ben Fadler each scored 12 for Oak Ridge.
St. Vincent trailed 33-28 at halftime, but turned the game around in the third quarter.
Two of the Bluejays' three third-quarter points came on a layup at the buzzer.
"Defensively, we finally came out and got after it," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy. "Defensivley, we didn't play too well the first half. We got some steals and really put some pressure on them."
GIRLS
Class 1A, District 3
FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Danielle Sutterer scored 22 points to lead three Squaws in double figures as St. Vincent downed Valle 56-45 to advance to the finals of the Class 1A, District 3 Tournament.
St. Vincent will take on Viburnum, an 84-58 winner over South Iron at 6 p.m. Friday.
Danielle Schremp scored 12 for St. Vincent, while Nichole Hadler added 11.
