JACKSON -- Notre Dame's golf team tied for second at Monday's Class 2A, District 1 golf meet at Bent Creek Golf Course and thereby qualified for next week's 2A state meet in Columbia.

Arcadia Valley, led by a 4-under par by standout Janszen Ringo, won district with a 326 total, six strokes ahead of Notre Dame and Kennett.

Rounding out the eight-team field were Herculaneum (342), St. Pius (357), Caruthersville (369), Portageville (381) and Malden (386).

Notre Dame, led by senior John Brey's 79, qualified for state for the third straight year.

"We struggled with consistency all year and it was good to see our seniors pull through for us today and get to state again," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet.

Bulldog seniors Jonathan LeGrand (8), Chris Koepper (85) and Cliff Seratti (88) comprised Notre Dame's team score. Fifth man Matt Howard will also be accompanying the team to state.

"We knew Arcadia Valley was strong, but we thought we could compete with them," said Janet.

He came away particularly impressed with Ringo, a senior headed to the University of Missouri on a golf scholarship.

"He basically single-handily won it for them," said Janet. "He's pretty awesome."
