Against Jackson last Thursday, Notre Dame High's girls basketball team committed 11 turnovers -- in one period.

Monday against New Madrid County Central in the opening round of the Charleston Tournament, the Lady Bulldogs committed just 11 turnovers for the game and came from behind in the second half to win 54-51.

Notre Dame, the No. 5 seed, trailed the Lady Eagles, the fourth seed, 28-20 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs then outscored New Madrid 18-13 in the third quarter and 16-10 in the fourth.

Notre Dame improved to 12-6.

"We played a good offensive and defensive game," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim. "Eleven turnovers is a pretty decent number for us."

Melissa Maurer and Randi Senciboy both had 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Amanda Lange added 11.

Scott City 82, East Prairie 11

EAST PRAIRIE -- Scott City outscored East Prairie 22-0 in the first quarter and hammered the Lady Eagles on the road Monday.

Scott City (13-4) also held East Prairie scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Despite playing only about half of the game, Scott City's Sara Emerson, a 5-foot-10 senior post player, had 23 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Tara Sanford added 20 points and Amanda Beck came off the bench and had a big game, scoring 12 points.

St. Vincent 70, Festus 55

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent overcame a first-quarter deficit and beat visiting Festus Monday.

St. Vincent improved to 5-12.

The Squaws went 22 for 31 from the field and 26 for 31 from the free-throw line.

St. Vincent's Fara Galati poured in 27 points and Becky Lorenz added 15. Debbie Welker had 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Kara Geldmacher had 20 points for Festus.

Chaffee 41, Oran 27

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee outscored visiting Oran 20-5 in the opening period and cruised to a win Monday.

Chaffee improved to 7-9.

The Lady Red Devils' Renee Vandeven led all scorers with 18 points and Wendy Hanselman added 11. Oran's leading scorer was freshman Sara Heisserer with seven points.

Perryville 74, St. Pius 51

PERRYVILLE -- Perryville outscored St. Pius 18-4 in the first quarter and sealed the win by outscoring the visitors 45-31 in the second half.

Perryville (13-6) had four players in double figures. Dena Schumer had 18 points, Amy Verseman 16, April Watts 11 and Tiffany Perkins 10.

Patty Zander had 20 points for St. Pius.

Delta 57, Puxico 30

DELTA -- Jody Below broke loose for 21 points as Delta breezed past Puxico.

No other Lady Bobcat scored more than eight points. Delta improved to 10-3 with the win.

Delta built a 19-6 lead in the first quarter and held a commanding 30-14 lead by halftime.

Delta returns to action Thursday when Woodland visits. The Lady Bobcats have also scheduled two makeup games: Feb. 13 at Sikeston and Feb. 14 at Chaffee.

Wrestling

Cape Central 68, Sikeston 12

Cape Central's wrestling team dominated visiting Sikeston Monday to improve to 3-5-1 in dual meets.

Central received forfeits in the first three matches and won the opening 10 matches overall. The Tigers won 12 of 14 matches.
