Notre Dame advanced to the finals of the Class 4, District 1 girls basketball tournament with a 75-43 win over Sikeston Wednesday night.
Notre Dame (18-7) came out strong early, putting up 20 points in the first quarter. The Bulldogs, which moved to No. 1 in this week's SEMO Top 10 poll, held a 37-17 lead at halftime.
"I was especically pleased with the first half because we dominated the boards," coach Jerry Grim said.
Sommer McCauley led the 12 Notre Dame scorers with 20 points. Ali Tyson had 16, and Sierra Ellis added 12.
Joy Daniel led Sikeston with 19.
Notre Dame will play Dexter on Friday for the district championship.
"Dexter's got a good team, and we beat them pretty easy last time, but that won't happen again," Grim said.
Notre Dame's opponent for Friday advanced by defeating Perryville.
Dexter turned in a strong second-half performance to brush off Perryville 72-55.
Perryville (15-10) led 33-26 at the break, but Dexter rallied and outscored the Pirates 46-22 in the second half.
"In the third quarter we just came out flat, and Dexter was hitting everything," Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann said. "It seemed like they were just the opposite of what we were in the first half."
Katie Dunlap scored 20 for Dexter. April Lorenz scored 29 and Krista Miesner scored 12 for Perryville.
Scott City 52, St. Vincent 39
In a preview of a first-round Class 3 district matchup, Scott City closed its regular season with a home victory.
Kacie Cartwright led Scott City (10-12) with 18 points, and teammate Amanda Raines finished with 10.
Scott City took a 22-14 lead into halftime and bumped its lead to 42-26 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Scott City, seeded fourth, and St. Vincent, the fifth seed, will meet Saturday in District 2 at Bloomfield High School.
Valle 61, Chaffee 49
Chaffee closed its regular season at home with a loss to Valle.
Chaffee (6-13) trailed 32-16 at halftime and could manage only a four-point swing in the second half.
Jennifer Vandeven, honored before the game as Chaffee's career-points leader, had a game-high 24 points. Terry Schilli led Valle with 17.
Chaffee will begin its district tournament Saturday against Ellington at the Black River Coliseum at 10 a.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Scott City 61, Portageville 59
Scott City overcame a 15-point third quarter deficit to pick up a road victory Tuesday night.
The Rams trailed 33-23 at halftime and quickly got down by more before mounting their charge. Scott City (15-6) cut the deficit to 46-41 by the end of the quarter and ouscored Portageville 20-13 down the stretch.
D.J. Walton scored a game-high 19 points for the Rams, and Tyler Ward added 15.
