Central and Notre Dame claimed semifinal victories Friday to advance to today's championship game of the Noon Optimist girls soccer tournament at Notre Dame.

Central snuck past St. Vincent 1-0, and the Bulldogs defeated Perryville 4-2.

Central and Notre Dame will meet in the title contest at 4 p.m. today. St. Vincent will take on Perryville in the third-place game at 2 p.m.

Central's lone goal came from Laura Luks with an assist from Meghan Orr. Jackie Twidwell made four saves for the shutout.

Megan Wengert had 11 saves in goal for St. Vincent (1-1).

Notre Dame scored two second-half goals to break a 2-2 halftime tie and improve to 2-0.

Destiny Dirnberger scored twice for the Bulldogs, and Mindy Siebert and Meridith Medlin each added a goal.

Mattie Neff, Erica Ruopp and Medlin each contributed an assist.

Hazelwood West 2, Jackson 1

Jackson could not hold on to an early 1-0 lead and lost at the Anheuser Busch Soccer Park.

Jenni Tenholder scored for the Indians (0-1) in the opening 10 minutes of the game off an assist from Lauren Drewett.

Hazelwood West tied the game about 10 minutes later, and scored the game-winner midway through the second half.

BASEBALL Oran 24, Zalma 1

Oran jumped out to a 20-1 lead after two innings and hammered visiting Zalma in the season opener for both teams.

Austin Dumey picked up the win on the mound and had two hits at the plate for the Eagles.

Caleb Seyer, Joey Williams and Alex Daniel each added two hits.

Chaffee 11, Charleston 1

Chaffee evened its record with a home win.

Steven Dooley recorded nine strikeouts, four walks and allowed four hits in a complete-game victory for the Red Devils (1-1).

Offensively, Chris Hanback had three hits, and Michael Lee added a double and three RBIs.

Festus Tournament

Notre Dame advanced to the semifinal round of the season-opening Festus Tournament with an 8-2 win over Herculaneum.

The game lasted only 5 1/2 innings due to darkness.

The Bulldogs (1-0) will take on Park Hills today at noon in a semifinal game and will either play at 4:30 p.m. for the championship or 2 p.m. for third place.

Kirk Boeller earned the win for Notre Dame, allowing just five hits and striking out seven in six innings.

Jacob Essner had a home run and a double to lead Notre Dame's offense, and Jordan Buchheit added two hits.

Jackson got off to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Park Hills scored nine unanswered runs to ease by the Indians (0-1).

Bret Groening suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings. Joel Penrod allowed four runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings as Jackson's starting pitcher.

Penrod and Cameron Heath each had two hits for Jackson.

The Indians will face Herculaneum at 10 a.m. today before facing an opponent to be determined at 2 p.m.

After a year off from track and field, Xavier Delph highlighted Notre Dame's boys performance with a first-place jump of 43 feet in the triple jump.

Delph was an all-state triple jumper as a sophomore at Central, but did not participate in track last year after transferring to Notre Dame.
