Nationally ranked Mizzou tops Redhawks in dual

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team turned in a respectable road performance, but it wasn't enough against host Missouri, ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Missouri posted a 195.250 total, while Southeast finished at 192.575.

"We didn't win, but we had a great performance despite the loss," said Southeast coach Tom Farden.

Freshman Sandra Blake led the Redhawks with a second-place finish in the all-around at 38.800. Brystol Powelski was third at 38.275 and Danyelle Aber was fourth at 38.250.

Led by a second-place performance by freshman Maureen Grimaldi (9.875), Southeast finished with a season-high 48.600 in the beam. Grimaldi was also fourth in the bars (9.775).

Blake (9.750) turned in Southeast's top performance in the floor exercise to place third, while Starlyn Schwartz (9.7) led Southeast in the vault.

"The team seems to be moving in the right direction for the conference championship next week," Farden said. "That was a solid road score."

Southeast will host the Horizon Midwest Independent Championship at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Houck Field House.
