Harriette Myers sank a hole in one on Wednesday, then drained a 12-foot birdie putt in a playoff on Thursday to capture the 26th Annual Lassies' Classic golf tournament with teammate Diane Fowler for a record sixth time at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
The duo from New Madrid Country Club had won the tournament four straight times before last year, and this year marked their sixth title over an eight-year span.
While Myers' hole in one was one of the highlights of the tournament, her putt on the second playoff hole -- the par 3 No. 2 -- proved a bit more dramatic as it ended the deadlock with the team of Janice Hoffman and Vicki Long.
Hoffman and Long, who entered the day three strokes behind Myers and Fowler, shot a 64 to force the playoff. Myers and Fowler had rounds of 64 and 67. Both teams finished the second round at an 11-under-par 131.
"I enjoyed the course immensely," Myers said. "The committee that planned the tournament did a great job."
A single shot during Wednesday's round no doubt did its share to endear the course to Myers. She aced No. 13 with a 6-iron. The hole in one on the 135-yard hole was the first for Myers.
Fowler is also fond of the course, which has been kind to the twosome.
"After playing at my home course in New Madrid, which is flat, playing the Cape Girardeau Country Club is a slice of heaven," Fowler said.
The team of Barb Johnson and Martha Hamilton finished five strokes back at 136.
