Missouri's Marshall guns down No. 22 Oklahoma

~ The Tigers defeated the Sooners 71-69 for their fifth straight win.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Missouri's Marshall Brown knew the strengths of Oklahoma's frontcourt tandem of Taj Gray and Kevin Bookout and used them against the Sooners.

Brown scored a career-high 21 points, including the two free throws with 1.8 seconds left that lifted Missouri to its fifth straight victory, 71-69 over No. 22 Oklahoma on Tuesday night.

After having the ball knocked away by Terrell Everett, Missouri's Jimmy McKinney recovered it on the floor and passed to Brown in the left corner. Brown elevated for a 3-pointer and officials called Gray for a foul.

"He's a good shot blocker and I knew he had a run on me, so he was going to get a good jump and it was going to be hard for me to get a good look," Brown said.

"I just wanted to get him in the air and try to get a little contact. I drew contact, they called a foul and I got to the line."

In retrospect, Gray said he should have backed off and taken the chance of Brown making a difficult shot. Instead, he approached and his chin slammed into Brown's arm as he went up for the shot.

Brown missed the first free throw before hitting the second and third. Everett, who also missed a layup at the end of Oklahoma's 59-58 loss to Nebraska on Saturday, bounced a desperation halfcourt shot off the backboard at the buzzer.

Brown was 8-for-12 from the field and also had a career high with six rebounds.

Thomas Gardner, the Big 12's leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, added 21 points for Missouri (9-4, 2-0 Big 12), which overcame Oklahoma's 39-26 rebounding advantage to snap the Sooners' 10-game homecourt winning streak.
