Cape Central spent Saturday, March 23, split between track meets at Festus and Saxony Lutheran.
Cape Central won five boys' relays and the girls' 4x800 relay at the Saxony Coed Relay. In Festus, the Tigers’ girls' relay teams finished second in the 4x100-meter and 4x200m relays, while the boys won both sprint relays.
Jackson Witvoet was a key runner in the Tigers’ relay teams and finished in third place in the 200m and first place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.85, the second fastest time for a Cape Central runner in that event.
21 performances at the McCullough-Douglas Invitational in Festus met the MileSplit US Second Team standard. Among them was Jackson senior Bryce Gentry, who placed eighth in the 3,200m run with a time of 9:30.07.
Barrett Reagan of Jackson took first place in the 400m dash with a time of 51.45. He also finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.07.
On the girls’ side, Jackson’s Lillie Morningstar placed third in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 10-00. Fellow Indian Megan Berger finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 33-02, and Adallyn Prater placed third in the high jump, clearing a mark of 4-09.75.
Jackson won the girls’ 4x100m relay (51.43), finishing ahead of Cape Central (51.54) by less than a second.
Notre Dame senior Lauren Eftink placed second in the girls' 3,200m with a time of 11:23.41. Jackson’s Annika Barks wasn’t too far behind, as she finished fourth with a time of 11:38.36.
__Rebel Relays at Park Hills__
The Woodland Cardinals blazed the track and found themselves on the medal stand in the Rebel Relays on Friday, March 22, in Park Hills, Mo.
Woodland’s Harlie Hinkle finished second in the girls' shot put (33-00.50) while Layla Wiseman placed third in the javelin with a mark of 91-04.00. Faith Rouggly (13:18.75) edged Jackson’s McKayla Shaw (14:05.79) for third place in the 3200-meter race.
On the boys’ side, Woodland sophomore Benjamin Talley finished third in the shot put with a mark of 42-03.75. The 4x800m relay finished second (8:45.28) ahead of Perryville (8:51.37). Cardinals senior Merlin Tucker finished second in the 400m race with a time of 57.00.
Woodland junior Calvin Layton won the boys’ 3,200m race (10:33.64) ahead of Perryville’s Bair Hopkins (10:41.43) and Jackson’s Chase Wendel (10:52.56). Layton also finished third in 1,600m (4:53.68) behind his older brother, Reed Layton, who won the event at 4:47.01.
Perryville junior Ellie Gerler won the girls’ discus with a mark of 106-04.50 and finished third (32-08.50) in the shot put. On the boys’ side, Ben Huber finished second in the discus with a mark of 139-07.50.
__Saxony Coed Relays__
There were two performances at the Saxony Coed Relays on Saturday, March 23, in Jackosn, Mo., that met the MileSplit US Second Team standard, and both came in 800-meter co-ed sprint relays. St. Vincent (1:50.88) edged Saxony Lutheran (1:50.95) in a photo finish for first place. St. Vincent also won both the boys' (3:50.67) and girls' 4x400m relay (4:42.27), and 4x100m throwers relay (1:05.04) against Fulton City.
St. Vincent senior Claire Otte won both the girls' discus and javelin, as well as placing third in the shot put. On the Boys' side, Saxony Lutheran senior Joseph Zoellner placed first in both the boys' discus and shot put events.
