The Perryville softball team got its season underway by finishing second in the Perryville Invitational on Saturday in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

Sikeston finished 3-0 in the round-robin tournament to take first place, while the Pirates were 1-2 along with Saxony Lutheran and Ste. Genevieve. Perryville took second based on run differential.

The Pirates dropped a 6-5 decision against the Crusaders in their opener before bouncing back with a 9-1 win over the Dragons. They closed the tournament with an 8-5 loss against the Bulldogs.

Perryville's offense was paced by Anna Besand and Makayla Burns, who each had a pair of multi-hit games. Burns provided a solo home run in the Pirates' win over Ste. Genevieve.

Brandi Hoover picked up Perryville's lone pitching win, allowing only three hits and one earned run. She went the distance, striking out seven and walking three.

The Bulldogs got their season underway with a lopsided win over the Crusaders at the Central Municipal Pool.

Ashton Hopper had a pair of individual top finishes and was a part of two first-place medley teams to lead Notre Dame, which claimed nine of the 11 events. Ian Cameron had two first-place finishes to pace Saxony.
